Music on sale for locked-in syndrome sufferer
A MORPETH musician is on song to raise money for a little girl believed to be the youngest locked-in syndrome sufferer.
Pete Dodds, former member of Newcastle band Half Breed, has produced a CD which will go on sale in aid of nine-year-old Eve Anderson.
Eve, of Ashington, was treated at the Great North Children’s Hospital at Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary following an unexplained bleed in her brain in February last year.
The former Stannington First School pupil was found to have an inoperable brain tumour and has now been diagnosed as suffering from a form of locked-in syndrome with complications.
Although still aware of what is going on around her, she is unable to communicate with others and is now housebound for much of the time, being virtually paralysed and confined to a wheelchair.
Mr Dodds decided he wanted to use his songwriting skills to raise money for the youngster, who is his neighbour’s granddaughter. He wrote the song Heaven Holds A Place and teamed up with singer Amie Addison to record a four-track CD. They also called on the musical expertise of friends Brian and Irene Hume from folk-band Prelude to help.
Mr Dodds said: “I talked to Eve’s grandma and father Ian and they were delighted. I wrote Heaven Holds A Place, but felt that my gruff voice wouldn’t do it justice and by chance I heard Amie singing and thought her voice would be perfect for the project.
“Amie recorded two versions, an acoustic and an orchestrated version.”
The CD is on sale at local stores, as well as being available to download online.
