THE members of Kirkley WI were given a fascinating talk by Mrs Marion Anderson about the hidden rivers which run under the city of Newcastle.
There are three main hidden rivers in glacial valleys and two lesser hidden rivers under the streets of Newcastle. Making the talk more interesting, the positions of the rivers were linked to the present day buildings over the rivers.
In her vote of thanks Judith Arthur said she would walk with a fresh interest around Newcastle, knowing what was below the pavements. The competition for an artefact of old Newcastle was won by Ann Kelway.
In the business meeting it was reported that members were looking forward to an Italian meal at Cambo WI and a visit to Woodhorn Museum.
The Harvesters meeting is on May 18 and the summer outing to Paxton House and the Chainbridge Honey Farm is on July 6.
