A POPULAR Grow Your Own (GYO) Vegetable Show will return to a Morpeth garden centre next month.

Heighley Gate Nursery and Garden Centre, off the A697, is inviting entries for the event, which will feature 11 different classes, including six tomato categories and the longest runner bean contest.

Entry to all classes is free and there are prizes of £5 vouchers for first place winners, £3 vouchers for second places and £2 vouchers for third places.

The overall Best Entry In Show winner will receive a trophy and a £10 voucher.

Heighley Gate Events Co-ordinator Sarah Tait said: “We have held a GYO Vegetable Show at the garden centre for the past two years and it has always been a great success.

“The event will be a fun day out for all the family. We’re expecting a good turnout in all sections and classes, but are still keen to invite as many people as possible to get involved with the show.

“This is a fun event for beginners and amateurs and we would encourage people new to growing their own produce, who have not taken part in a competition like this before, to enter.”

The show will take place on Saturday, September 3 and Sunday, September 4.

A complete list of classes and entry forms are available from the garden centre now. All entry forms must be submitted by 5.30pm on Thursday, September 1 and people can take their entries to the outlet from 9am on the first day of the show.

Judging will commence at 2pm that day and prizes will be awarded from 2pm on the Sunday.
