Society welcomes accomplished classical pianist
AN acclaimed pianist will perform four captivating pieces at the next Morpeth Music Society concert.
John Lenehan has had wide-ranging roles as a soloist, accompanist, arranger and composer during his career. He has released more than 60 recordings and appeared in prestigious concert halls around the world.
At the Morpeth event, his recital of 19th century piano repertoire will begin with the Andante & Rondo Capriccioso, followed by a sonata dedicated to Mendelssohn as a wedding gift from Sterndale Bennett.
Schumann was a friend and contemporary of both Mendelssohn and Sterndale Bennett and the programme continues with his set of etudes dedicated to the Englishman.
Sydney Smith was a prolific and popular 19th century English composer and his arrangement of a Mendelssohn concerto will be the concert’s finale.
It will take place on Thursday, February 14, in Morpeth Methodist Church, Howard Terrace, from 7.30pm. Tickets are priced £12 for adults and are free for students under 18.
They are available from the society on 01670 513369, Morpeth Tourist Information Centre in the Chantry, or the Methodist Church.
