Lord Howick was enthusing a week or so ago about a rather special rhododendron in the Silver Wood that was flowering for the first time in 25 years.
The seeds of R. Grande were collected during a 1990 plant-hunting expedition in the Bhutan and this specimen was introduced to the Silver Wood at Howick but failed to bloom.
Last year, the lovely R Cornish Glory was blown over in a gale and Grande was moved to that spot. It’s an ill wind…! Thanks to Richard Poyer, volunteer at Howick Hall, for the use of these images.
