YOUNG Morpeth footballers have certainly made the most of their old kit bags.

For they are still going strong after 26 years.

Our Images of Yesteryear feature from February 23 showed a photograph of the football teams at Newminster Middle School being presented with bags to carry their kit in 1986.

The shiny new bags seemed to look hardy enough, but one Morpeth mum was astonished to spot them still being used today.

Liz Waterfield was watching her son Matthew play football when she noticed one of the bags on the sideline — still fully functioning.

And there is proof positive in this photograph she took of Newminster’s Year 6 team and their teacher Mr Dick following a 2-0 defeat by Northburn Primary School from Cramlington.
