GROW your own rookies can pick up tips from the pros in a free fruit and vegetable clinic.

Heighley Gate Nursery and Garden Centre is providing complimentary advice on growing fruit and vegetables throughout the weekend.

General Manager Roger Wale said: “The clinic is for anyone interested in finding out how to grow their own food. We hope as many people as possible come along and join us for this informative weekend.

“Experienced staff will be on hand to help people choose seeds, plants and equipment, and they will also offer ideas on how to get the very best from your vegetable patch.

“For people with smaller gardens there will be advice on growing vegetables in growbags, tubs and containers.

“Our customers tell us that they think home-grown produce tastes better and that it is better for the environment as it’s picked and then eaten at home so there is no wasteful packaging or added food miles.”

Free advice leaflets are also available while stocks last.

• The centre will also be providing advice on keeping marine fish, courtesy of Ian Hallam from the Tropical Marine Centre.

He will talk to visitors about his work and answer questions.

Mr Hallam will be in the centre’s pet shop on Saturday and Sunday, from 10.30am to 3pm each day.
