Tuning up for festival return

MORPETH musicians are tuning up for the return of a long-running festival.

The Wansbeck Music Festival is now entering its 107th year, offering competitions, workshops and a concert in two parts next month.

The first part takes place in St George’s United Reformed Church in Morpeth, with recorder players competing on Friday, March 8, followed by an afternoon workshop.

The following day’s events, also held at the church, are devoted to woodwind.

The adjudicator will be Colin Touchin on his third visit to the festival.

Morning sessions begin at 9.30am and afternoon classes start at 1pm.

Admission costs £2 per session or £3 for a full day. Tickets for evening sessions and the closing concert cost £3. People can also become patrons for a minimum donation of £10, which gives entry to all sessions, including the concert and a programme.

Part two of the festival runs from March 21 to 24.
