World-class musician to play recital

RENOWNED musician Wilfrid Murray will perform a piano recital in Morpeth on Saturday.

It will include Scarlatti sonatas, music by Chopin and Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata.

Mr Murray trained at the Royal College of Music, studying piano with Cyril Smith and later with celebrated Swiss pianist Albert Ferber.

He has performed at a range of venues including Burgh House, Leighton House, the London College of Music and York University. He also runs a teaching practice and specialises in the application of the Alexander Technique, which helps musicians to reduce the likelihood of injury by improving the quality of the physical movements involved in playing an instrument or singing.

The concert, in association with Morpeth Music Society, will take place in Morpeth Methodist Church in Howard Terrace, from 7.30pm. Proceeds will go the Jitegemee School Building Project in Tanzania.

Tickets, priced £12 for adults and £8 concessions, can be booked in advance from Carlotta Johnson on 01670 514129. They are also available on the door.
