£15,000 painting stolen at Morpeth
A PAINTING worth about £15,000 has been stolen from a Morpeth gallery.
Police are appealing for information after the art work, called Floral Blouse, was taken between 2pm and 5pm on Saturday from Tallantyre's Art Gallery in Newgate Street.
Indications suggest the thieves may have been posing as customers in the gallery before taking the oil painting off the wall and leaving through a fire exit.
It is by the Spanish artist Royo and measures 50cms by 65cms. His works feature in many prestigious collections both in Europe and the USA and Tallantyre's is one of the few galleries in the UK to have some of them on display.
The painting is distinctive and anyone who may have been offered it or know its whereabouts should contact P.C. Teasdale at Morpeth Police Station on 03456 043043 — extension 61126.
