A £1MILLION funding scheme for certain community and voluntary groups across the North East is open for applications.
Community Foundation Tyne & Wear and Northumberland, Tees Valley Community Foundation, County Durham Community Foundation and the Acumen Development Trust have won the contract to distribute European Social Fund (ESF) money across the region from 2011 to 2013.
The programme will specifically help community and voluntary groups to support the unemployed and inactive to move closer to employment.
Barbara Gubbins, Chief Executive of County Durham Community Foundation, said: “Our local knowledge and expertise in grant-making will ensure the funding will be distributed where it is most needed and is very welcome at a time of severe job cuts in our area.”
ESF Community Grants will provide awards of up to £12,000 to groups undertaking activities including help with basic skills, work experience, training advice and guidance, job search assistance, confidence building and support to overcome barriers to training and employment.
