MP Alan Beith has been shortlisted for a prestigious political award.

The Berwick Member, who represents parts of Castle Morpeth, has been nominated for the Parliamentary Award in the annual House Magazine honours.

The accolade is presented to a Member of either the House of Commons or House of Lords who has consistently been recognised as an outstanding representative and ambassador for Parliament.

The other nominees this year are Ken Clarke and Sir Gerald Kaufmann.

Mr Beith said: "It is a great honour to have been nominated for this award.

"I have always made it my priority to work for the people of Berwick-upon-Tweed constituency at Westminster, but have been fortunate to visit many other parts of the United Kingdom and travel oversees through my work on various select committees, especially more recently as Chairman of the Justice Committee, representing Parliament."

The House Magazine is an integral part of Westminster life and is managed by a cross-party editorial team of MPs.

The winner of the award will be announced on June 18.
