ENGLISH Heritage is sounding a final call to budding writers to enter its Belsay Horse creative writing competition.
The deadline for the contest, part of an initiative to highlight historical places of great literary inspiration, is July 7.
It is open to all ages, published or unpublished, with prizes ranging from signed books by award winning author David Almond to one lucky winner getting a family pass for unlimited days out with English Heritage, signed books and the latest Skellig DVD. The winning story will also be on display at Belsay Hall.
Entry forms and rules for the creating writing competition are availableby telephoning 01661 881636 or via belsayhorse@mhwpr.co.uk.
There is still time for potential writers to visit Belsay Hall and draw inspiration from Stella McCartney's crystal horse Lucky Spot. Stella was inspired to create the piece following a personal visit to Belsay where she fell in love with the Castle's Great Hall.
Lucky Spot must provide a strong element of the submitted entry. Themes could include mythical creatures, how did the horse return to its rightful home, where has it been on its journey?
The winner will be announced on July 21.
