A TOP performing local authority has received high praise for its achievement.
Pegswood Parish Council has formally received its quality status award from the National Association of Local Councils.
It was announced late last year that it was to receive the accolade after showing it is representative of and actively involved with all parts of the community, as well as being effectively and properly managed.
Northumberland Association of Local Councils Secretary David Francis, who presented the certificate, said: "We are very pleased as Pegswood Parish Council has pulled itself up from a low point a few years ago to be among the crème de la crème of councils across the country.
"It's not just about its internal functions, the authority has excelled at engaging the wider community, supporting local initiatives and displaying a 'can-do' attitude to things."
Council Clerk Peter Basnett said: "It was the ambition when I took over the role to do this so we could prove to residents that the council has turned things around and is on a proper footing.
"It's quite some achievement because less than ten percent of parish and town councils across the country have quality status."
