A MIXTURE of music featuring local and continental is on offer at a concert next week.
Czechs and Plaids is being held on Friday, October 17 from 7.30pm at St. James' Centre, Wellway, Morpeth, organised by the Morpeth Northumbrian Gathering in conjunction with Morpeth Chantry Bagpipe Museum.
Filip Huml (singer, dancer and bagpiper)
and Marek Holý (fiddler and singer) are the Czech performers and the Plaids will be represented by Northumbrian piping group Robson's Choice, who sport the traditional pipers' black and white tartan originally worn by Border shepherds.
The two Czech men met at high school and have performed together since 1991. For the concert they will present traditional folk songs especially from the southern part of the Czech republic and will be dressed in typical traditional Czech costumes.
Earlier in the day Filip and Marek will be visiting local schools to give demonstrations.
An accomplished group of musicians from around Tyneside, Robson's Choice play local melodies on the sweet-toned Northumbrian small pipes to raise money for St Oswald's Hospice. They were featured on the BBC show 'Songs of Praise' when it came to the Morpeth Gathering this year.
Their most recent prestigious appearance was at August's Czech Bagpiping Festival in Strakonice, Bohemia, along with champion small piper and composer Neil Smith of Whitley Bay, who is also to play at the Czechs and Plaids event.
Concert tickets priced £7(Concessions £5) will be available on the door, in advance from the temporary tourist centre at Morpeth Town Hall, or by ringing 01670 513308 or 01670 500717.
