A MORPETH photographer is among the candidates for a regional business prize.
Entrepreneur David Goldsmith set up Summerfield Photography when he turned his lifelong hobby into a business after two-and-a-half years on incapacity benefit.

The former Royal Mail worker had to quit his job through a knee injury, but after surge
ry and physiotherapy to get him off crutches, Mr Goldsmith was ready to launch his own company.

And now he is one of 98 entrants going for the 'If we can, you can' Challenge.

The initiative is being led by One NorthEast and the Entrepreneurs' Forum to encourage an entrepreneurial culture across the region.

Two finalists will be selected from Northumberland, vying for the chance to be the new face of the campaign, with the winner receiving one to one advice from business experts, support services and a place at the Entrepreneurs' Forum Annual Conference.

All competitors are featured on The Big Picture virtual map at www.ifwecanyoucan.co.uk

Entrepreneurs' Forum Chief Executive Carole Beverley said: "We have been overwhelmed with the response the challenge has triggered, showing the expanse of talent we have so far discovered across the region.

"It is a pretty even split between men and women, which is fantastic. There is real passion and enthusiasm coming through in the entries and it is a solid platform on which we can build."

The challenge was open to individuals who were thinking of starting a business, had set up a business, or were looking to grow their enterprise.
