A SINGLE mother who falsely claimed more than £13,000 of carer's allowance has been given a three-year conditional discharge.
Karen Carter, of St Mary's Field, Morpeth, received the sentence from magistrates at South East Northumberland Law Courts in Bedlington, following a guilty plea at an earlier hearing to claiming the benefit which was not entitled to her once she got a part-time job.

The 36-year-old owed the Department for Work and Pensions £13,140, but has already started monthly repayments so the amount has reduced to £12,620.
