Gibside's annual Friday Night Fever and Fireworks concert due to take place tonight (Friday) has been cancelled due to the adverse weather conditions which have caused safety concerns.
A meeting between the National Trust, Northumbria Police, the health and safety committee for the event and the promoter identified a number of significant safety issues including flooding of the backstage area and arena and flooding of the Burnopfield Bridge at Busty Bank. These conditions have made access into and around the estate treacherous.
The National Trust will be contacting everyone who has bought a ticket to let them know how they will be refunded. A full refund will be given.
A further meeting to decide whether tomorrow's Classical Spectacular concert, due to be presented by Aled Jones, will go ahead is set to take place on Saturday morning. Call 01207 541 820 for the latest information.
