DEVELOPERS behind plans to deliver a new supermarket at Low Stanners in Morpeth are holding an open consultation session today (Thursday).
The event will be held at the Morpeth Riverside Leisure Centre in New Market from 3pm to 6pm.

The scheme to bring forward a 50,000 sq ft foodstore at a site off Dark Lane and Staithes Lane — which would also include 320 short stay and 190 long stay car parking spaces — has been brought forward by Dransfield Properties Ltd.

It is working closely with local stakeholders and discussing with local residents about the proposals that would offer a supermarket in the town centre area, with Tesco and Sainsbury's already making applications for sites on the edge of the town.

Support has come from the Morpeth and District Chamber of Trade but some residents in Staithes Lane are unhappy, particularly with the road going through the street being widened to provide access for service vehicles.

At the consultation session, members of the public will be able to view the plans and speak to members of the professional team behind them.

Mark Dransfield, Managing Director of Dransfield Properties, said: "We have already had a great deal of initial support for the plans to bring forward a supermarket on the Low Stanners site in Morpeth and there is obviously an ongoing debate in the town about the need for another supermarket.

"Anyone with an interest in the plans is asked to come along and discuss the proposals with us."
