A PONTELAND man's retirement has been marked by a special presentation from the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) North East.
Michael Taylor has recently retired as regional development engineer for the organisation, a position he took up in June 1999 with the responsibility of being the first point of contact for members and those requiring information on Institution activ
ities.

He is also a past regional Chairman of the Institution of Highways and Transportation and was awarded the MBE in 2006 for services to young people.

As a trustee of the Robert Stephenson Trust, a print from a painting commissioned by ICE for the regional Robert Stephenson Awards was presented to Mr Taylor on his retirement. It depicts one of Stephenson's finest structures, the Royal Border Bridge at Berwick.

Mr Taylor, from Prestwick Village, will continue to represent the ICE Seniors Group on the regional committee as well as serving on the Institution's Panel for Historic works Regional Sub Committee.

Stephen Larkin, Regional Director for ICE North East, said: "Michael's dedication to, and work for our profession, particularly with the Institution has been central to the development of the ICE NE and membership in the Region.

"It is great that he will continue to work as a volunteer within the Institution, but his retirement marks the end of an era and, therefore, called for this recognition."
