A MOTORCYCLIST was airlifted to hospital after an accident near Ponteland.
The incident took place on the A696 between Ponteland and the Highlander pub when a motorbike and car collided at 5.25pm on Saturday.

The motorcyclist was taken to Newcastle General Hospital by air ambulance and his condition was described as serious, but not life-threatening.

The road was closed for a short time and diversions were in place.
