A LOVED-UP Morpeth couple certainly know the secret to a happy marriage.
For Stanley Robson Humble, known as Stan, and his wife Irene have just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
And the pair, who live in Stobhill, have received a letter of congratulations from the Queen.
The couple both served in the Armed Forces, with Stan serving in the RAF and Irene working on the ground, helping to build aeroplanes.
They met during their service in Wolverhampton and began courting through Scottish dancing.
They were married at St George’s Church in Cullercoats.
After leaving the Forces, the couple came to Morpeth and Stan was to become manager of a garage in Guide Post.
When he retired, he taught himself to play the keyboard and later turned his shed into an electrical workshop, learning how to repair televisions and other equipment as a hobby.
Meanwhile, Irene was an avid knitter and made more than 1,000 cardigans for babies at Wansbeck Hospital.
The couple have a son David, grandchildren Ian and Helen, and great grandchildren Mia and Eva, who all helped to celebrate their landmark anniversary.
