AT their most recent monthly meeting, Morpeth U3A were pleased to welcome Kathleen and Harry Gilbert, learning from them of their enthralling personal journey of exploration along that most famous trade route The Silk Road – following in the steps of Marco Polo.
They spoke with great enthusiasm of Samarkand and Kashgar, of the beautiful silks and prized men’s headdresses as they travelled along the historic East-West route through many Asian countries, trading people, goods, ideas and beliefs.
The presenters’ journey enlightened everyone’s views of an oasis and the desert, using photographs, speech and music to illustrate their talk.
Members’ questions illuminated many personal experiences and interesting details. For more information about the Morpeth U3A, call 01670 505899.
