A developer has received retrospective planning permission for a big viewing platform with advertising hoardings in Ponteland despite concerns from local residents.
Lugano Group gained planning approval for executive detached dwellings on Runnymede Road in Darras Hall.
But it then put up a platform, frame and some hoardings to make people aware that the properties are available before submitting an application. The structure is 65ft long and 9ft high.
Objections were put forward by neighbouring residents, Ponteland Town Council and Ponteland Civic Society, which included that it was out of scale and out of character, and the county council’s highways department had concerns.
However, planning officers recommended approval after Lugano agreed changes such as adding a post and rail fence to discourage cars from stopping there and prevent access onto the platform and the removal of the proposed illumination from the hoarding.
The west area planning committee then gave it the green light at a recent meeting.
