A FAMILIAR face has formally taken over the hot seat at Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service.
Alex Bennett, who has been the Acting Chief Fire Officer (CFO) for the county since December 2010, has now been appointed to the role permanently.
He had previously served as its Deputy CFO from 2005 and before transferring to Northumberland in 2002, Mr Bennett served with Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service.
He said: “I am very pleased to be appointed to the role of Chief Fire Officer in Northumberland.
“With the help of my colleagues, I aim to build on the high standards set by the service.
“This will be done by continuing to provide an effective response to fires, floods and other emergencies.
“Community safety will remain a key part of our work to prevent incidents occurring and our efforts to protect those people living, working and spending time in Northumberland.”
Northumberland County Council’s Executive Member for Public Protection Anita Romer said: “I would like to congratulate Alex Bennett on his appointment as Chief Fire Officer.
“I have worked extremely well with Alex during the past nine months and I am confident that, with his proven record of delivering a first class service, he is the right person for the job.”
