THERE’S been a change at the top for Morpeth Lions Club.

Member Simon Pringle has been appointed to the role of President, taking over the position from Dave Wheeler.

Mr Pringle has been a member of the club for more than 20 years and was previously President during its silver jubilee year.

He said: “Dave has worked tremendously hard for the club and pushed forward a number of ideas to ensure the continuing success of Morpeth Lions.

“It has been a year of continuing growth in membership, which bodes well for the future. I plan to build on the firm foundations built by Dave during my year of office.”

Under Mr Wheeler’s presidency, the club distributed about £19,000 to good causes following fund-raising events such as Dickens of a Draw and LionSwim. Support was given to youth organisations and disabled children, more than 200 Christmas food parcels were delivered and the Meet The Lions tea entertained around 200 elderly residents.

Donations were also made to international causes, helping blind people in India, WaterAid and the earthquake disaster fund for Christchurch in New Zealand.

The club’s new Vice President will be Geoff Bushell, currently Secretary, while Treasurer Stuart Lewis will become Junior Vice President. A new Secretary and Treasurer will be appointed in the coming months.
