ONE of the last residents to leave Morpeth’s axed Mount care home has celebrated her 105th birthday.
Nellie Smith moved from Lincolnshire to Morpeth to live with her nephew Norman Bateman and his wife Sheila.
She now resides at Ashington Grange and marked her birthday with a party.
Ashington Mayor John McCormack and Wansbeck MP Ian Lavery called in, but Miss Smith’s special guests were five generations of her family, including the newest member, her great, great, great niece Isla Jane, who is 10 weeks old.
She says the secret to longevity is no husband, fresh air, no smoking and no excessive drinking.
