A WIDE range of impressive produce was on display at this year’s Ponteland Parish Flower Show.
Dozens of residents put forward entries for the various categories, which included fruit and vegetables, cookery, handicrafts, children’s and photography as well as flowers.
As always, there was a floral exhibition put together by Callerton Garden and Flower Club and Ponteland Floral Art Club – this year’s theme was dances.
For the first time, Ponteland Memorial Hall Leek Club was incorporated into the show, bringing with it additional perpetual trophies for leeks and onions.
The event’s chairman, Syd Cowan, said that those who had not been put off by the cold weather in April were rewarded with much better growing conditions in the summer.
He added: “All in all it was a good show this year and there was an excellent attendance from members of the public.
“The children’s classes were packed with entries and we were pleased to see a big entry in the handicrafts section from the carving group which meets at Kirkley Hall.
“The auction at the end was well supported and there were no items left.
“The voluntary committee would like to thank all those who helped in any way to make the show a success and we’re grateful to the Mayor (Peter Cowey) for coming along to do the presentations.”
