It was an enthusiastic gathering of WI members from Felton, Pegswood and Bothal, Cambo, Stannington and Lancaster Park who joined the Mitford ladies to hear Helen Grierson, the stained glass artist, give a talk about her life and work with glass.
Helen was a primary school teacher who had enjoyed attending night classes covering all aspects of art. She developed a passion for working with glass. As a result, we were shown, both by slides and her creations, how her work has developed. It is largely inspired by nature and the seasons, but she is happy to meet clients’ requests for any subjects. We saw door panels and windows worked in lead, copper foil and even gold leaf. You can see her at work, view her creations and even attend glass-making classes at Eshott Heugh.
