Authority to examine issues at building

Morpeth Town Council has formed a group to discuss structural issues at a community building.

A condition survey last year for Storey Park Community Centre found a few areas of concern, including the deterioration of roof coverings and high levels of damp in various parts of the building, which was built in the 1950s.

More intensive investigation was recommended.

The new working party set up by the authority will discuss the way forward following the report and it will hold discussions with Northumberland County Council officers. The town council, which has managed the building since 1998, is looking to take on the freehold and full management of the centre and its nearby playing field.

Members of the working party will also raise issues that need to be sorted out at Morpeth Town Hall, such as air conditioning, with the county authority.
