Fantastic floral work by householders, volunteers and employees in a Northumberland village have been rewarded.

The parish council’s annual Pegswood in Bloom competition saw a number of new entrants this year.

As well as the three category awards, the best in show title went to Katie and Craig Hogg. The accolades were handed out during a ceremony last week at the authority’s offices.

The category recipients were as follows – Best garden: winner Katie and Craig Hogg, runner-up Hughie Hislop, commendation Gwen Kerr; Best container: winner William Hall, runner-up Margaret Summers; Best business: winner Tom Graham (Pegswood Community Hub), runner-up Linda Mollon (Glenton’s Bakery).

Pegswood Parish Council chairman Paul Williams said: “The range of entrants was one of the stand-out factors this year and is something we’re hopeful will continue into next year’s competition.

“Pegswood in Bloom is an opportunity to showcase the pride that our residents take in their homes and businesses, but I think it is also a reflection of the progress the village is making as a whole.

“It’s a privilege to give out the prizes to the wonderful entrants and I’d like to thank our sponsors Welbeck Estates (best business category) and Sanders Plant & Waste Management (best container category) and judges Lynsey Crofts and Nigel Lawton from Heighley Gate.

“Our appreciation also goes to Coun Ian Dick and assistant clerk Susan Lonsdale for organising the event this year.”
