THE men and women who help children from across the county to get to and from school safely have been recognised for their efforts.

The School Crossing Patrol (SCP) service celebrates its Diamond Jubilee this year and Road Safety GB has commissioned a special commemorative badge and certificate to mark this important milestone.

In Northumberland, the county council recently gave them out to its SCP workers at an event in County Hall, Morpeth.

It was also held to highlight the need for community-minded people to fill current and future vacancies for patrol posts.
