The Tenants of Bradbury Court took place in the Great North Run. At the finish with medals

A PAIR of disabled Ponteland residents were a colourful sight as they hit the road to improve their home.

Garry Collins and Michelle Coatesworth are among the nine service users at Leonard Cheshire Disability’s Bradbury Court facility in Thornhill Road.

With support from staff and volunteers, they raised more than £3,000 by taking part in the Great North Run. The group wore pink shirts and some members wore fancy dress to help collect funds.

The money will be used to renew the flooring and carpets in the communal areas at Bradbury Court.

Volunteer Co-ordinator Denise Chapman said: “Taking part in things like this make a big difference to our service users.

“They were really enthusiastic about doing the Great North Run and although it was a difficult challenge for Garry, he really enjoyed it and he was delighted to finish the race.

“Michelle did it in just over two hours and she has really got the bug because she wants to do the run again next year.

“The staff and volunteers who gave up their time to help push them along certainly caught the eye with their outfits.”

Ponteland Methodist Church, Ponteland Lions and the Ponteland branch of Waitrose sponsored the group. The rest of the total came from family and friends.
