A GARDEN centre near Morpeth is celebrating as its big bird box has been mentioned in the world’s most famous records book.
The largest nest box on the planet, 6ft high and 4ft wide, was built by staff at Heighley Gate Nursery & Garden Centre and the feat is included in the 2012 Guinness World Records.
It is now on show in the Christmas display, located in the main building, to tie in with the launch of the book.
General Manager Roger Wale said: “We were delighted when our giant nest box broke the world record back in 2008, but for it to be recognised in the Guinness World Records 2012 book is a fantastic honour.
“It has pride of place in a spot where it is visible to all our customers who visit the garden centre throughout the festive season.
“The nest box was made because the staff at the garden centre feel very strongly about conservation and supporting local wildlife and we hope it will remind people what they themselves can do to make a difference to our environment.”
