Free safety checks on electric blankets are being offered, but early booking is advised.
Northumberland County Council will stage events at a number of venues later this month to ensure blankets are safe for the winter.
Checks will be carried out at the sessions and where electric blankets fail the test replacements will be available at reduced cost, thanks to funding from Age UK Northumberland.
The events will also offer information about consumer and legal rights to help guard against unscrupulous doorstep traders.
The service is available to residents over the age of 55 and arrangements can be made to collect blankets from anyone who is housebound.
A session will take place all day at Northumberland County Blind Association in Staithes Lane, Morpeth, on Monday, September 22, and at Lynemouth Resource Centre the following morning.
However, the safety checks must be booked in advance by calling 01670 623783.
