KIND-HEARTED Northumberland residents can still help to spread cheer this Christmas through an online gift-giving initiative.
Operation Christmas Child, run by Samaritan’s Purse, appeals for people to fill shoeboxes with gifts for needy children around the world, with thousands dispatched every year.
And while the scheme has now closed for people to hand in their boxes, a new gift-giving method has been set up online.
Shoebox World enables visitors to choose from a selection of toys, education supplies, hygiene accessories and other items, which volunteers make up into a parcel to send overseas to vulnerable children aged two to 14. A personal message and photograph can also be added.
Online boxes can be made for £11 and orders can be taken up to and including Christmas Day.
