WORK is progressing on plans to brighten up a key Morpeth thoroughfare after months of delay.
Following the repair and upgrade of the lighting in the T&G Allan alleyway, local artist Ivan Webley has been commissioned to provide the murals for the blank wall.
Morpeth and District Chamber of Trade has led the campaign to improve the alleyway, but setbacks have pushed back the expected completion date.
A group spokesman said the funding from Northumberland County Council has been confirmed and Mr Webley has started work on the main picture, which will be of the Old Nags Head pub along with various other depictions of old Morpeth.
“It is hoped that the actual replacement ceiling and the general painting of the remainder of the alleyway will commence in the near future,” he added.
