The wait is finally over and we can reveal the Morpeth Herald’s Best Bar of 2014.
The Black Bull in Morpeth has claimed the much sought-after title following a readers’ vote.
The pub pipped fellow finalists – the Beresford Arms in Whalton, Dyke Neuk in Meldon and the Sour Grapes and Tap and Spile in Morpeth – to the honour.
It followed a readers’ nomination process, in which we asked people to put forward their favourite watering hole for the title, and explain why it was worthy.
Some were nominated for their outstanding food, or wide choice of real ales, while others were picked out for excellent customer service and friendly staff, or value for money.
And variety was the spice of pub life, with some entrants mentioned as a great place to watch sport, play darts or take part in quizzes, others nominated as a great family environment, and some talking of the cosy atmosphere for couples.
Once the finalists were announced last month, voting got under way, with coupons printed in the Herald and text voting also available.
See next week’s Herald to find out why our readers rated The Black Bull so highly, and just what the title means to the bar.
