A POPULAR business networking event is coming to Morpeth for the first time.
Newcastle Science City is taking its hugely popular First Friday North East event on the road to give businesses in Morpeth a chance to sample this unique networking environment.
First Friday North East, normally held on the first Friday of every month at Central Bean coffee shop in Newcastle city centre, has proven itself as a hotbed for innovation, providing an informal forum for businesses to discuss entrepreneurship.
Now, following recommendations by the Centre for Rural Economy at Newcastle University and requests from the Northern Rural Network, Newcastle Science City has decided to run a pilot series to provide innovative, rural-based businesses with a chance to get together and discover how they could benefit from its service and support.
The first will be held on February 11, from 8.30am to 10am, at Central Bean, Sanderson Arcade, Morpeth.
Morpeth businessman Charles Sellers, formerly professor of software innovation at the University of Sunderland and now a partner at The Business Acceleration Team, with a background in change management and ICT, is a regular attendee at the city centre First Friday events.
He said: “First Friday North East is without doubt the best networking event I’ve ever attended and I make sure I never miss a meeting of it. The quality of the attendees is extremely high and it brings together people with similar skills, interests and experience to provide them with opportunities to work together and learn from each other.
“By attending I have established an excellent professional network, a number of career opportunities have developed, I have become chairman of a business I took an interest in and I have helped provide direction to new friends and contacts.
“This satellite event is a brilliant opportunity for Morpeth businesses to find out what First Friday North East is all about, how they can be connected to others working in a similar field and how they can benefit from being part of Newcastle Science City’s work.”
