Focus on sea fisheries at Morpeth event

THE Northumberland Inshore Fisheries & Conservation Authority (IFCA) will be holding a series of presentations in Morpeth on Tuesday.

The event is open to the public and will be of significance to anyone with an interest in sea fisheries and the marine environment.

In the morning session, there will be a focus upon shellfish projects currently being undertaken in the Northumberland IFCA district with Newcastle University.

This will be followed by talks on the Defra-led Revised Approach to Fisheries in European Marine Sites (EMS), with particular focus on the situation in the English part of the Berwickshire and North Northumberland EMS.

In the afternoon, there will be a presentation on shellfish stock assessments carried out by the Centre for Environment, Fisheries & Aquaculture Science – particularly in Northumberland.

Following these sessions, there will be an opportunity for questions and discussion.

No invitation is necessary to the event in County Hall, Loansdean, which starts at 10am, and visitors will be welcome to attend for the whole or part of the day, but numbers are limited so those who wish to attend should get in touch with the Northumberland IFCA office.
