Fund-raising adds up to success for town accountancy team

STAFF at the Morpeth branch of a chartered accountancy practice have helped the business to smash its charity fund-raising target.

Last January, Tait Walker pledged to raise funds for a number of local charities to mark its 75th year in business and the firm set a collection goal of £75,000 in the space of 12 months.

Despite exceeding the target only six months in, the team continued fund-raising for the duration of 2012 in a bid to achieve the optimal amount for the chosen charities and reached a final total which was just under the £100,000 mark.

Members have thrown themselves into a range of activities, from cake sales and art exhibitions to boot camps and team away days – and some of them even took on the gruelling Three Peaks Challenge during what was arguably the wettest weekend of the year.

The firm’s most recent effort involved hosting its annual Corporate Recovery Christmas Lunch in aid of the Newcastle-based People’s Kitchen. About £700 was raised and the money will go towards supporting the charity’s Your Future project, which was set up to help the ‘friends’ of the kitchen move towards independent living.

Other good causes to benefit from the efforts of staff at Tait Walker, which also has branches in Newcastle and the Tees Valley, include the Great North Air Ambulance, St Oswald’s Hospice, Tiny Lives and Macmillan Cancer Support.

Gordon Goldie, who heads the Corporate Recovery team, said: “The year just gone was an incredible one for the business and the team should feel extremely proud of the hard work which has been put into making these fund-raising events happen.”
