Funding for rural villages

RURAL towns and villages in Northumberland are to receive fresh funding to help their economies.

The county council has announced details of the £3.2million Rural Growth Network investment, shared with Durham, which it says has the potential to create hundreds of jobs.

Executive Member for Regeneration Tom Brechany championed the new initiative as a ‘shot in the arm’ for the communities and their businesses.

“Through setting up dozens of new workspaces across rural Northumberland and removing barriers to training, the Rural Growth Network will enable more and more people who live in the county to stay and work in the county,” he said.

“Given that it is one of the first five in the country to be announced, it is clear that our colleagues in Government recognise the potential for rural growth in Northumberland.”

To date, a total of 61 new work premises are planned for Northumberland and Durham.
