Funding legacy for local causes

THE operator of Lynemouth’s axed smelter is inviting applications for community funds.

Rio Tinto Alcan has contributed £1,500 through its Community Foundation Fund towards a new climbing wall for the 8th Blyth Sea Scouts.

And the company is also offering grants through its legacy programme.

Regional Economic Development Director John McCabe said: “In addition to our well-established Community Foundation Fund, which makes donations such as this, we are currently engaged in our Regional Economic Development Strategy and recently launched a new Legacy Fund, which is accepting applications from local groups in need of support.

“Both the Community Foundation Fund and our Legacy Fund are accepting applications so we’d encourage interested groups to get in touch and apply.”

The Blyth group will use its wall in Cub, Beaver and Scout sessions to promote co-ordination, teamwork, problem solving and trust.
