Help at hand for budding bosses
THE Northumberland Youth Enterprise Fund (NYEF) is now open for applications.
The small grant scheme is available to county residents aged between 16 and 25 to assist with developing a business idea or business start-up costs.
Existing enterprises based in the area are eligible to apply if they are within one year of commencing trading.
The fund is intended to be flexible in order to reflect the diverse needs of applicants.
Money can be provided for a range of things such as test marketing a product or service, development needs, travel or assistance with reasonable start-up costs.
Coun Lesley Rickerby, Northumberland County Council’s executive member for children and young people, said: “All start-up businesses face challenges and require a lot of hard work but the rewards can be great.
“This support will allow Northumberland’s young people to find out what it is like to be their own boss and pursue their career ambitions, while gaining valuable skills and making contacts for the future.”
Awards are available up to a maximum of £500 and successful applicants will be offered one-to-one support from a county council enterprise officer for a period of three months.
They will also be provided with free access to the resource distribution network WARPit.
The closing date for applications is Thursday, January 31, however applicants are advised to apply early as the fund is limited and it is anticipated that demand will be high.
