More than a century of service at town firm
SEVEN workers have clocked up 124 years service between them at a Morpeth dealership.
Siblings Colin Davidson and Faye Tait, alongside Richard Scaife, Alan Bewick, Mark Landon, Peter Candlish and Allison Owens, have reached the total at Vauxhall dealer Davidsons of Morpeth.
Colin and Faye have continued the family success story as the business was set up in 1990 by their father Harry and uncle Peter Davidson. Mrs Tait has now taken over the reins at the dealership in Coopies Way as Managing Director, with Colin Davidson taking the role of Business Manager.
“Having worked at Davidsons since I was just 16 years old, I’ve seen a lot of changes within the motor industry as it is constantly evolving so there’s always something new to tell customers,” he said.
“I’m 37 now and have worked in practically all departments along the way.
“It is definitely the team that makes our dealership so successful. Our car valeter Alan Bewick has been with us since the very first day our dealership opened in 1990 so it really is that level of dedication which gives customers the best possible care and service.”
Car Sales Executive Mark Landon is one of the longest serving members of the team, starting 26 years ago in the parts department. He has become one of the retailer’s leading experts.
“When I left school I always knew I wanted to work with cars, and I was lucky enough to be able to work for one of the best car brands from the very beginning of my career,” he said.
“All these years later and I’m still more than happy at Davidsons — it really is a fantastic place to work.”
Motability Specialist Allison Owens, who has more than 31 years of automotive experience and has recently celebrated her 20th year at Davidsons, added: “I first began my career here in accounts and have been fortunate enough to work in a variety of positions.
“I’ve gained a wealth of experience and the team here are great.”
Adding to the tally of long-serving staff is Peter Candlish, who was recently promoted to Aftersales Manager and has been at the business for more than 15 years.
And Richard Scaife has been working as a Sales Manager at the dealership for 12 years.
