New model for future

A MORPETH business group has adopted a new model for the future.

The Morpeth and District Chamber of Trade has revised its constitution to put more controls in place, as well as clearly define its objectives, membership and procedures.

Time-scales have been reduced for members to pay outstanding subscriptions, from six months’ grace to four, and the roles of the organisation’s officers have been made clearer, while all committee members will now each have responsibility for specific activities.

As well as a Chairman and Vice-Chairman, the group will have a Deputy Vice-Chairman, responsible for compliance and strategy.

Member Charles Sellers, who drafted the bulk of the new constitution, said: “We have been drawing it up over the last 12 months and this final version is based on members’ feedback.

“We have looked at ways and means of putting some controls in and hopefully it will reflect what the chamber hopes to do in the future.”

Chairman John Beynon, who represents the chamber externally, runs meetings and is responsible for public relations, was elected at the AGM earlier this year.

Now the chamber has appointed Charles Robinson as Vice-Chairman, with extra responsibility for planning, and Charles Sellers as Deputy Vice-Chairman, with David Lodge as Treasurer.

The rest of the committee is made up of Geoff Proudlock, responsible for membership, Ken Stait, who will focus on marketing, and April Atkinson, responsible for events.
