Store takes a byte of online market

A LONG-ESTABLISHED Morpeth shop is ready to take a byte of the online market.

Rutherfords of Morpeth started life 166 years ago as a small draper’s shop. It has since passed through five generations of the Rutherford family and is now widely regarded as the town’s flagship store.

However, the business is still eager to keep up with the latest shopping trends so this week it is launching a new website to enable customers to shop online from a select range, including fashion, kitchenware, linen and furnishings.

Owner Richard Rutherford said: “This is a new venture for us and it shows that it doesn’t matter how old you are, it’s never too late to learn. Rutherfords has never been afraid to move with the times and we feel it is the right time to offer our loyal customers 24-hour shopping.

“We are not an online shopping company as we are still very much a department store, offering customers who come through the door a positive shopping experience, and this is only on limited ranges, but we want to give customers the opportunity to look at products online and come and pick them up or have them delivered.

“As a department store we have come through two World Wars and several recessions and we are very proud that we have kept up with the latest shopping trends. Allowing customers to order online is a further demonstration of that.”

The website can be found at www.rutherfordsofmorpeth.co.uk
