Team pledges to stick to town action plan

THE newly-formed Morpeth Town Team has said that recent flooding will not knock it off course from delivering an action plan.

Three partners – Morpeth Town Council, Morpeth Chamber of Trade and the Greater Morpeth Development Trust (GMDT) – form the core of the group, along with Sanderson Arcade developers Dransfield Properties.

It will receive £10,000 to fund its initiatives after enlisting the support of Wansbeck MP Ian Lavery to access the money in an extension to the Portas Pilot scheme.

Chairman David Lodge, who is Chief Executive of GMDT, said: “Everyone’s concern, of course, has to be for the families and businesses affected by the flooding and the team will do whatever it can to aid their recovery processes.

“Sadly, just at the time when Morpeth might be hoping to cash in on the recent Northumbria in Bloom successes, the town has hit the national and local press and media headlines for all the wrong reasons.

But since the last flooding four years ago we sense there has been a spirit of genuine community partnership working for the good of the town and that is what will get Morpeth through this latest crisis.

“Morpeth has shown it can fight back in the face of adversity and as a town team we are confident that’s what will happen again.”

Special advisers have been appointed for each of region to provide support and mentoring to the groups.

The adviser for North East town teams is Managing Director of Tippey Marketing and Events Beth Ward, who manages the Leeds Retail Association and handles social media for the National Association of British Market Authorities.
