Businesses scoop top tourist awards

TOP tourism destinations in Northumberland have been honoured as among the best in the region at a glittering awards night.

The North East England Tourism Awards were presented in a lavish ceremony at the Stadium of Light in Sunderland last week.

And among the winners were a number of businesses from this area.

Linden Hall Golf and Country Club Assistant Restaurant Manager William Salve took the top prize and a gold award for Outstanding Customer Service, while the Longhorsley facility as a whole received a bronze third place award in the Large Hotel of the year category.

Meanwhile, Go Ape tree-top adventure attraction in Matfen was awarded a silver for Best Tourism Experience and Belsay Hall’s Extraordinary Measures exhibition also received a silver award for Tourism Event of the Year.

The awards were judged by a number of senior industry experts and winners had to demonstrate excellence in various fields, such as customer service, training, accessibility and sustainability.

The winners from various categories will go forward to represent the region in the national Visit England Awards for Excellence next spring.
