TWO charities had a ball at an annual Morpeth event as they shared a £1,500 cash boost.
The Civic Ball was hosted by Mayor Ken Brown in aid of his two charities for the year, Northumberland County Blind Association and Contact Morpeth Mental Health.
About 165 people turned out for the event earlier this month, while dozens of local businesses offered prizes for the tombola, organised through the Morpeth and District Chamber of Trade.
The generosity resulted in £1,200 being raised from the tombola alone, with the total boosted by ticket sales and other sources.
Coun Brown said: “The event went very well. Everything went according to plan and there were some excellent prizes donated by a lot of the businesses in the town, which was very good.
“There was a good turnout. It could have been more, but I think we suffered as another event was going on in Newcastle at the time, but still 165 people were there, which is pretty good. Everyone had a good time and it was good to raise money and awareness of the two charities.”
